Description
These Deluxe Saddle Bags, Harley-Davidson, come with matching leather half-moon plates. The chrome half-moon plates were available from 1940 and upward.
Glo-Brites were authentic for these bags. 1940 was the first year for Glo-Brites.
Seems that in 1939 the bags were Alligator Grain, with Alligator Grain Half-moon. 1940-1941 same bags except they came in Rhino and, or Pebble Grain.
The lid was a flap over with the sharp pointed Stylized Winged Logo, embossed into the lid, centered, over the top and through the embossed grain of the lids. The lids had the riveted belt billets protruding through the lids from the back side, coming out to the front at the bottom of the lids. They always had white rosettes and a tin concho with white tassels tying everything together. These bags had the frame/tie-back straps attached to back, and the bags were sewn completely inside out, and then turned. Therefore, the bags had no outside seams. These bags seem to always be tan, or heavily oiled for color. I am not aware of any black bags, matching this description but they can be made in black. Reference HTRYHD pg. 538
